Measuring Your Laptop

If you are part of the lucky few, we might have a template already created for your laptop so you won't even need to think about measuring your laptop skin. To find out, visit our Design Lab and search for your laptop make and model. If we don't have it, that's ok! We can custom trim our laptop skins to any dimensions you provide!

Since every laptop is different, we highly recommend customers measure their laptop covers and provide us with the exact dimensions you'd like the skin to be. Measuring your laptop cover can be tricky - it's not an exact science but hopefully these tips will help you figure out the best fit for your laptop cover.

General Guidelines

Premium vinyl skins are designed to adhere to the flat surface area of your laptop cover only. Our skins do not adhere well to beveled edges, corners, hinges, etc. As in the diagram, you'll want to measure the width and height of the flat surface area only! Also, screen size doesn't mean much for the actual dimensions of your laptop - screen size is just the length from the top left corner of the screen to the btoom right corner. So if your laptop has a 15.6" screen, we'll still need to know the width and height since every laptop is different - even if they all have the same screen size!

Logos: Is the Dell/Apple/Toshiba/"Really-Awesome-New-Laptop-Brand" logo going to be covered?

Our vinyl skins will cover all logos: Dell, Apple, Toshiba, all of it! Keep in mind that illuminated logos like the Mac Apple may shine through the vinyl skin. If you'd prefer to not have the logo shine through, add a note when ordering that you'd like a small second piece of vinyl to cover the logo. On the other hand, if you want the logo to show through completely, head over to our Apple section in the Design Lab which has templates for Apple products with the Apple logo cut out! Just click on "devices" and then naviagte to your Apple product!

Hinges: I have them! What do I do about those?

Some laptop covers have hinges that connect it to the base. If you have hinges on your cover, you have two options. One, you can measure the flat surface area and not include the hinge area making the skin a bit shorter than the entire cover. Or two, you can include the hinges in your measurement and after you apply the skin, you can cut out the square sections where the hinges are! Keep in mind, if you'll be trimming the skins on your own, you'll want a very sharp exacto knife or thin scissors to get a clean, precise cut.
